Alan Bale is our primary Course Leader at Wild Wolf Survival, so many of the courses you attend will include his luscious locks. Alans teaching and outdoors background is robust to say the least.
Alan Bale has over 20 years experience as a bush crafter and has been teaching bushcraft and foraging for 10 years (as of 2023). Not only that but he’s also a qualified and experienced Arborist who has worked in Birmingham and Australia. He currently works on a variety of community projects in Stirchley, Birmingham to restore and enhance their native woodland and the River Rea as well as the historical gardens and park of Highbury Hall. Part of these duties include restoration of species, improve biodiversity, protect wildlife and improve accessibility for the public. His background has also gifted him with a Forest Schools Level 3 qualification and experience working as a volunteer coordinator for mental health and wellbeing projects.
Most recently, Alan was lucky enough to be invited to Channel 4’s new show Alone (UK) season 1. In a matter of weeks after application, Alan was thrown into the Canadian wilderness with his selected 10 items (from a precise list provided) and had to survive for as long as possible. It was hard, but Alan had a blast which he hopes you can see from the show!
“I think that when you are cold and wet and tired and hungry and don’t have a roof over your head and you’re very uncomfortable but then the next day or the day after you do have those things, that is a beautiful, spiritual experience that fills you with joy from the tips of your toes to the top of your head, and I love that feeling. And when you make your own fire and you make your own shelter and you catch your own food, and you sit there in your shack which is basically squalor, and you’re fed and you’re warm, those are good times.”
